Nellie E. Parrish, 91, of Memphis, MO, formerly of Rutledge, MO, died October 7, 2004, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.

Nellie was born on June 15, 1913, at Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Henry V. and Stacey Stevens.

She attended grade school in Kansas City, KS, and high school and college in Topeka, KS.

She married Tillman Parrish on May 6, 1946, in Kirksville, MO.

She loved to quilt, bake, cook, and drink coffee with her neighbors. She also enjoyed being a creative writer. After her mother’s passing, she left school early to take care of Max and Betty. Nellie loved talking on the phone with Betty, brought great joy to her entire family with her entertaining letters, optimistic view of life, and incredible sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman on December 30, 1985, her parents, and two brothers, Charles H. and Stanley H. Stevens.

Nellie is survived by her sister, Betty Jane Thompson of Denver, CO; brother, Walter Max Stevens of Columbia, MO; two nephews, Stanley M. Stevens of Wilmette, IL, and Jerold L. Thompson of Denver, CO; two nieces, Margaret Ellen Foster of Los Angeles, CA, Mary Beth Traudes of Columbia, MO; five great-nephews, Bobby Foster, Scott Thompson, Erik and Cristof Traudes, and Alex Stevens; three great-nieces, Christine Ortiz, Stacey Mitchell, and Anna Stevens.

The family has suggested memorials to the Pauline Cemetery, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held October 9, 2004, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Musicians were Joan Hinds and Joe Fulk. Pallbearers were Stanley M. Stevens, Erik Traudes, Herman Traudes, Cristof Traudes, and Steve Snodgrass. Honorary bearers were Jerold Thompson, Scott Thompson, Eric Mitchell, Junior Snodgrass, and Bobby Foster.
