MIRINDA A. NELSON
(2/22/1902 - 10/20/2004)



Mirinda A. Nelson, 102, of Normal, IL, formerly of Galesburg, IL, died October 20, 2004 at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, IL.

She was born on February 22, 1902 in Memphis, MO to John W. and Elizabeth Clarke Collins. She married Arthur D. Trammell in Memphis, MO on February 23, 1920. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1945. She then married Oscar O. Nelson in Galesburg on September 17, 1960. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1975.

She is survived by two grandchildren including Tina (and Dennis) Vaughn of Hudson, IL and a great grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Arthur D. Trammell and two sisters.

She was a clerk at the Galesburg JC Penney for 15 years.

She was a member of the Allen Park Baptist Church.

She was past president of Post 121 of Womenís Relief Corps of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Burlington Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Rebecca Parke Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, New Horizons of Galesburg and the Grandmotherís Club. She was a charter member of the Galesburg Senior Center and the Older Americans of Knox (OAKS) Center. She was a volunteer at the former Sunnyside School (now the Knox County Council for Developmental Disabilities (KCCDD), Galesburg Cottage Hospital, the Knox County Nursing Home and the former Americana Health Center

Graveside services were held October 23, 2004 at Wyaconda (MO) Cemetery with Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating. Memorials may be made to the Allen Park Baptist Church or KCCDD.
