Palmyra Pounds Tigers 55-31 In Tourney Opener

The Scotland County Tigers had not played for three weeks and it showed as Palmyra handed SCR-I a 55-31 loss in the opening round of the 32nd Annual Highland Tournament January 5.

The Panthers (8-2) jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Scotland County struggled on offense most of the night, not breaking double digits in any single period until the fourth quarter.

Palmyra put the game away with a 22-7 run in the third period to advance to the tourney semi-finals to take on Hannibal.

Scotland County (3-5) is the sixth seed in the tourney. The loss sends them to the consolation side of the bracket to face 7th Knox County.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Cody Holt with eight points. Nick Oldham and Clint Cottrell each added six points and Carl Wittstock had five.
