SCR-I Survives Friday the 13th Scare To Win Third Straight

It wasn’t the prettiest win of the year for the Scotland County Lady Tigers, but a 47-35 victory over Knox County Friday night capped off a long week for SCR-I that saw the team take a huge leap up the league standings with three key conference victories.

On Friday the 13th, it appeared like luck was against SCR-I early on. The Lady Tigers fell behind 13-12 in the first period. Ali Fromm converted a three-point play to start the second quarter and give her team its first lead of the night. Jessie Cotton poured in six points late in the second quarter to help the Lady Tigers build a 24-19 halftime bulge.

Knox County came within one possession of tying the game for the majority of the third quarter and the first four minutes of the final period before the Lady Tigers finally took charge for good.

Fromm scored on back-to-back possessions. A jumper by Brittney Courtright made the score 38-31 with just over three minutes to play. She followed with a basket in the paint to put the game away for SCR-I.

Cotton delivered the nail in the Knox County coffin with a three pointer to seal the win.

The three-game winning streak sent SCR-I to 11-10 on the year and 3-2 in league play. SCR-I was led in scoring by Fromm and Cotton each with 13 points. Courtright finished with 11 points and Ashlee Frederick pitched in with eight points.
