Schuyler County Upsets SCR-I Teams In Varsity Doubleheader

With the district playoffs looming just around the corner the Scotland County basketball teams may have got caught looking ahead. Both SCR-I teams were upset Friday night at Schuyler County, taking hits in the conference standings in the process.

In the first game of the evening it was the Lady Rams prevailing 48-39 in a foul filled contest. Scotland County was whistled for 30 fouls on the evening compared to just 18 on the home team Schuyler County.

The Lady Tigers opened up slowly, possibly overlooking a team, which it had already beaten twice this season. Schuyler County took a 13-3 lead in the first period.

Scotland County clawed back into the game, trimming the deficit to 22-15 at halftime before ultimately taking the lead 28-27 at the end of the third period.

But Schuyler County responded with a 21-11 run to close out the game and take the 48-39 win.

The Lady Rams had a huge advantage at the charity stripe, hitting 21 of 41 free throws. SCR-I shot just 19 free throws on the night.

Ali Fromm led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Jessie Cotton and Brittney Courtright each added eight points. Scotland County dropped to 12-11 on the year and 3-3 in league play.

Schuyler County is now 7-15 and 2-3 in the conference.

Rams Beat Tigers 36-30

A slow start and even a worse finish did in the Tigers in the boys game as Schuyler County prevailed 36-30.

SCR-I managed just two points in the opening period as the Rams jumped out to a 8-2 lead after eight minutes of play.

The Tigers rallied to pull within 19-17 at halftime. Scotland County went ahead 30-25 to close out the third period.

But the wheels fell off at that point. Scotland County did not score another point as the rams closed the game on a 11-0 run to upset SCR-I 36-30.

The defeat knocked SCR-I down a rung on the conference ladder, falling to 3-3 in league play and 11-12 overall.

Aaron Dale led Scotland County with eight points. Bryce Blomme and Clint Cottrell each had six points.

The Tigers likely will see Schuyler County again in the semi-finals of the district tournament, which will be played at Queen City.
