SCR-I Boys Varsity Track Season Off To Fast Start

The Scotland County boys track team got the 2004 season off on the right foot with a second place finish at the Van Buren Invitational April 1.

The Tigers finished just behind the host squad, in a tie with Central Lee, another Iowa school. West Burlington and Notre Dame finished tied for fourth with L & M taking sixth ahead of Clark County and Palmyra.

“This was our first meet of the season,” said Coach Marc Colvin. “The boys’ work ethic in practice really showed. I have a mixture of inexperienced and experienced athletes and they meshed well.”

Clint Cottrell won the 800-meter run for the team’s only first place finish on the day.

The team’s distance runners contributed in a number of events. Casey Parrish was second in the 1,600-meter run while Lance Norton finished third in the 3,200-meter run. The Tigers 1,600 meter medley team of Chris Holt, Bryce Blomme, Chris Humes and Parrish took second place. The 4x800 relay team finished in third place. It consisted of Parrish, Cody Holt, Norton and Humes.

The team also got good points from the field events. Cody Holt took home second place in the high jump and Carl Wittstock was fourth in the event. Jason Findling finished second in the long jump. Greg Neagle picked up third place points in the shot put while Andrew Bulen was fourth in the discus.

Jon Keller contributed a third place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles and also took third in the 400-meter hurdles.

SCR-I’s 4x400 meter relay team of Findling, Tim Robinson, Wittstock and Cottrell earned fourth place.
