Jason Cook Earns First Win of 2004 at Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway

Memphis, MO (June 26) -Jason Cook (USRA Stock Cars) became the only new winner of 2004 at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway on IMI Equipment-NAPA night. Also claiming feature wins were Tommy Elston (Late Models), Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds), Jerry Reese, Jr. (USRA B-Modifieds), Tony Becerra (USRA Hobby Stocks), Michael St. Clair and Chris Holt (Cruisers) and Dennis Schulte (Hornets).
Terry Schlipman took advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 of the 20 lap Late Model feature. Thad Trump would move up on lap 5 to battle Schlipman for the top spot. The two would run side by side for the next two laps, with Trump grabbing the lead on lap 8. Trump then led for the next 4 laps, when Tommy Elston, who started 7th, slipped under him for the lead. Elston then held off Trump on the final six laps to claim his 4th win of the season at Memphis.
Schlipman was 3rd, Lynn Monroe was 4th, with Denny Woodworth coming from 10th to round out the top 5. Sonny Smyser and Elston picked up heat race wins.
The USRA Modified feature turned out to be a battle down to the checkered flag. Tony Fraise jumped out front on lap 1 of the 15 lap feature, with Mark Burgtorf and Ryan Meyer challenging him in second. Fraise, who was running the bottom, and Burgtorf, who was on top, ran the next ten laps side by side, with Burgtorf edging out front on lap 11 for the lead. Fraise came back on the bottom to take the lead back on 12 and then held off Burgtorf on the final 3 laps to pick up another win at the speedway. Meyer was 3rd, Phillip Cossel was 4th, with David Wietholder coming home in 5th. Heat race win went to Burgtorf.
Mike Robinson grabbed the lead on lap 1 of the 15 lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Jason Cook and Ryan Cook making it a three-car battle for the lead. Robinson would hold off the Cook brothers until lap 5, when Jason slipped under him to take over the top spot. Jason then held off Ryan Cook and Robinson on the final 10 laps to pick up his first win of 2004 at Memphis. Butch Bailey was 4th, with Matt Greiner rounding out the top 5. R. Cook and Greiner claimed heat race wins.
Logan Trueblood moved out front on lap 1 of the 15 lap USRA B-Modified feature, with John Shaffer, Jerry Reese,Jr and Jerry Poor all close behind in second. Trueblood continued to lead as Reese, Jr., Poor and Shaffer battled for the second spot. Reese, Jr. would slip by Trueblood late in the race to grab the top spot and then held on to claim the win. Trueblood came home a season best 2nd, Poor was 3rd, Shaffer got a season best 4th, with Jack Evans, Jr. coming home in 5th. Heat race winners were Trueblood and Reese, Jr.
The 12 lap USRA Hobby Stock feature was picked up by Tony Becerra. Becerra took the lead on lap 1, with Jeff Soper close behind in 2nd. Becerra would lead all 12 laps to pick up the feature win. Soper was 2nd, Jeremy Hamlin came from 12th to finish 3rd, Mike Shelton was 4th, with Jason Overhulser rounding out the top 5. Shelton, Becerra and Brandon Symmonds claimed heat race wins.
Michael St.Clair jumped out front on lap 1 of the Cruiser feature, with Bill O'Haver taking the lead away on lap 4. St. Clair came back to lead lap 5 and held on to win in a time-limited feature. O'haver was 2nd, Derek Kirkland was 3rd, David Hudson was 4th, with Jason Henry coming from 12th to finish 5th. Heat race winners were Brian Overhulser and St.Clair.
The 10 lap Hornet feature saw Dave Burdette grab the lead on the start and hold it until lap 2, when Dennis Schulte slipped by for the top spot. Schulte then pulled away on the final 8 laps to pick up the win. Burdette was 2nd, Rob Hammel was 3rd, Andrew Hustead was 4th, with Michael Grossman coming home in 5th. Burdette and Schulte picked up the heat races.
Coming up next week will be the Pepsi/Sunrise Motel MLRA Late Model special. Late Models will be going for the $2,500 top prize. Also racing will be the USRA Stock Cars for $350 to win, USRA B-Modifieds for $300 to win, USRA Hobby Stocks for $250 to win and the Cruisers for $150 to win. Gates will Open at 4:30pm, Hot Laps at 6:00pm and Racing at 6:30pm.
