SCR-I Campus Bowl Team Wins Opener of QU Academic Challenge

The Scotland County R-I Campus Bowl team is off to a good start in the annual Quincy University Academic Challenge. The Tigers defeated Clark County 285-265 in the opening round of the televised event on November 7.

The match will be aired December 11 at 6:00 p.m. on WGEM television and will be rebroadcast the following Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on CGEM.

SCR-I rallied from a first half deficit to beat the Indians, one of last year’s tourney finalists.

Julie Triplett led the Tigers scoring answering 12 toss-up questions. Lance Smith answered seven toss-ups and Jon Keller added four correct answers. Other team members are Michelle Lodewegen, Loren Billington and Hannah Kiddoo.

The Tigers were scheduled to play Hannibal in the quarterfinals of the 16-team, single-elimination bracket. Other teams advancing to the final eight were North Shelby, Macomb, Quincy High, Pittsfield, and West Prairie with officials still awaiting the results from the Carthage vs. Nauvoo-Colusa match.

The Quincy University Academic Challenge is in its 15th year. Each match consists of two eight-minute halves with toss-up questions as well as a lightning round. Each correct answer in the first half is worth 10 points. Lightning round questions earn five points with the point value raised to 20 points in the second half for the toss-up questions.
