Brownlee Twins Spoil Lady Tigers Season Opener
Despite holding area standout Ashley Brownlee to just two points in the first half, the Scotland County Lady Tigers still trailed Warsaw 23-18 in the team’s season opener. Unfortunately for SCR-I Brownlee, who is headed to Quincy University after the season on a hoops scholarship, found her groove in the second half and prevented any chance of a comeback with 23 points after the intermission.
Ali Fromm helped Scotland County open the game strong, scoring seven points in the first period. But the Lady Tigers still trailed 12-10.
It was actually Brittany Brownlee, Ashley’s twin sister, who held off SCR-I early on. She hit three three-pointers in the first half as Warsaw built a 23-18 lead at the break.
Scotland County was unable to cut into the margin in the third period despite solid quarters from Fromm and senior Valerie Crawford. The Lady Wildcats expanded the lead to 39-31 behind 13 points from the Brownlee twins.
Both teams opened up the offense in the final quarter, combining for 40 points. Jamie Fuller put in eight points for SCR-I and Crawford nailed a couple of buckets but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Wildcats held on for the 59-53 win.
Fromm led SCR-I with 18 points on the night. Fuller finished with 12 points and Crawford added 10. Ashley Brownlee had a game-high 25 points for Warsaw while sister Brittany pitched in with 13.
