Putnam County Pounds Tigers 75-29 In Tourney Semifinals

The roller coaster Scotland County offense bottomed out in the second game of the Putnam County tournament as the host team derailed the Tigers 75-29 on December 7 at Unionville.

By the time Cody Musgrove scored in the paint, the Tigers first tally of the contest, the score was 16-2. The Midgets stood tall in the first period, jumping out to a 22-6 advantage from which SCR-I was never able to recover.

The scoring problems carried over into period two. A three pointer by Jared Shelley at the 3:55 mark, was the first bucket by the Tigers in the second period. Chris Humes followed that with a three pointer to cut the Putnam County lead to 35-12. The Midgets led 40-13 at the intermission.

The host team opened the third quarter with a 19-1 run in the first three minutes before Humes scored in the paint. Shelley hit two free throws with 1:34 remaining in the period making the score 62-18.

SCR-I mounted its best surge in the fourth quarter. Greg Neagle scored six straight points to give the Tigers a spark but Putnam County went on to the 75-29 victory.

Shelley and Neagle each tallied six points to lead the Tigers offense. Putnam County (3-1) was led by David Fowler with 18 points. SCR-I dropped to 0-4 on the young season.
