Local Agencies Teaming Up To Help Area Youth
Northeast Community Action Agency, GAMM, Incorporated of the Missouri Career Center, and AmeriCorps*VISTA are currently teaming together to form JOB CLUB here in Scotland County. This is a 40-hour curriculum that is approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Classes will meet on Wednesday’s from 3:30 to 5:30 for approximately 18-20 weeks at the Community Action office. Buses from the school go by there daily, so students can be dropped off and picked up by parents after work.
During JOB CLUB, students will participate in activities that are designed to foster citizenship and leadership skills. We will explore a variety of careers and learn different career explorations to help students gain hands-on knowledge of jobs that may be of interest to them. We will learn how to do basic communication skills, personal finances, job attitudes and behaviors, and the job application process such as writing a resume and going through an interview.
A random mailing was sent to several Scotland County R-I students, but JOB CLUB is open to anyone interested. Sign up for JOB CLUB will be at the Community Action Office on January 15th. It will take about an hour to complete the necessary forms. If you would like to join, please contact Beverly Talbert at 465-8558 or Sheila Moseley (VISTA) at 465-7255 during working hours.
