Nine Year Old Hurt In Crash on Clay Street

An accident in Memphis sent a Memphis child to the hospital with minor injuries. According to the Memphis Police Department, a nine-year-old child was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Clay Street at 7:55 a.m. Monday, January 31st.

The accident occurred when a 1993 Chevy truck driven by Christopher C. Holt, 17, of Memphis, was southbound on Clay Street. His vehicle rear-ended a 1992 Ford Taurus that was yielding to oncoming traffic, waiting to make a left-hand turn on to Jefferson Street. The car was driven by Cindy Hackenwerth, 36, of Memphis.

There were two passengers in the Hackenwerth car, a 16-year-old juvenile and the nine year old. The latter was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Holt was issued a citation by the Memphis Police Department for following too closely and given a February 22 court date.

The Police Department was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department and the Scotland County Ambulance Service.
