Three Motorists Injured In Crash On Route BB
Three local residents were seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident in northeast Scotland County at 12:20 p.m. February 15.
The collision occurred at the end of Route BB, in the four-way intersection, where the paved road turns into gravel and is intersected by another county gravel road. The area is known as Lawn Ridge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Benjamin C. Kelley, 20, of Revere, was southbound on the gravel road in a 1989 Oldsmobile. At the same time a 1989 GMC pickup driven by Daniel N. McKinney, 42, of Memphis, was westbound on the other gravel road headed onto Route BB. The two vehicles met in the intersection and collided.
The impact of the crash drove both vehicles off the roadway where the pickup struck a power pole. Both vehicles came to rest southwest of the intersection. The Scotland County Fire and Rescue Squad used the Jaws of Life to extricate Benjamin Kelley from his vehicle.
He was taken by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital and then transferred to University Hospital in Columbia.
The AirEvac helicopter landed at the scene and transported McKinney to University Hospital in Columbia.
According to first responders, McKinney had been thrown from his truck following the collision when the vehicle struck the power pole.
A passenger in the Kelley vehicle, Lytisha Kelley, age 28, the sister of the driver, also suffered serious injuries in the accident. She was taken by ambulance to SCMH.
The accident is under investigation. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, the Scotland County Fire Department, the Scotland County Ambulance service and numerous volunteers.
