Soil District Meeting To Be Held March 3rd
The Scotland County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, March 3rd at the V.F.W. Hall in Memphis. The District was organized in 1945, so this year 60 years of conservation will be celebrated. The meeting will begin at 10:45 a.m. with registration.
Chairman Doug Freburg will open the meeting at 11:10 a.m. with minutes of the last meeting and the financial report of the district. The FFA students from Scotland County R-I will present a program at 11:20 a.m. Winners of the 2005 Essay contest sponsored by the district will be announced. The Community Bank of Memphis will sponsor the poster contest and cash awards will be given at 11:50 a.m.
A free lunch will be provided at the noon hour to all who attend.
The afternoon program will be a panel consisting of the following: Ken Berry, NRCS District Conservationist will be discussing the Conservation Security Program; Leon McIntyre, MU Extension Agronomist will speak on Soybean Rust and SDS; Rick Greene, MFA Precision Agriculture Manager will be speaking on Integrating Precision Ag for Pest and Nutrient Management; and Tom Deberry, Northeast Missouri RC & D Coordinator with the NRCS, talking on the benefits of Dry Hydrants.
The 14th Annual Clark B. Ewing Conservation Memorial of $300.00 will be given to a local landowner 50 years and under. Door prizes will be given out at the end of the meeting.
