Voters Back Road and Bridge Fund
With more than 1/6 of the total budget for the Scotland County Road and Bridge department riding on the April 5th election, voters resoundingly backed the continuation of the ½ cent sales tax for capital projects for the local transportation system.
The ballot issue received 486 votes in favor of renewing the tax for another four years. That compared to just 85 no votes calling for an end of the tax that has been in place since 1986.
The successful ballot issue insures an estimated $180,000 in revenue for the county to be used for bridge packages, new machinery and other capital expenditures for the road and bridge department.
