Law Officers Conduct Safety Checkpoint

Local law enforcement agencies joined forces Saturday night in Memphis to perform a safety checkpoint for motorists. Officers from the Memphis Police Department and the Scotland County Sheriff’’ Department along with Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers, established a roadblock on Highway 15 near the north city limits of Memphis.

The officers stopped vehicles and checked motorists for driver’s licenses, insurance, proper vehicle registration and to insure seat belt usage.

During the evening officers issued a number of warnings, several summonses and made one arrest.

David Brackelsberg of Kahoka was found to be operating a motor vehicle unlawfully. After being stopped at the checkpoint, officers discovered that Brackelsberg was driving without a license. During the stop he and his passnegers were detained and questioned. Brackelsberg was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, resulting in his arrest.

He was transported to the Scotland County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
