Downing Teen Seriously Hurt In Accident

A Downing teenager was seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident Saturday morning on Highway 136, six miles west of Memphis.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Nakila D. Blessing, 17, was eastbound on Highway 136 in a 1994 Ford when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and down a steep embankment before impacting the ditch below.

First responders reported that Blessing had left her home in Downing at approximately 10:30 a.m. that morning. She was found along the roadside nearly an hour later after crawling from the wreckage and back up the embankment where she was noticed by a passing motorist.

Blessing was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department and the ambulance service.
