MoDOT Seeking Input On Proposed Route D Bridge Replacement Project

A proposed road project will mean one less narrow bridge in Scotland County but will likely mean detours for several months for motorists that travel Route D.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced plans to rehabilitate the bridge over the North Fork Middle Fabius River on Route D located just east of Schuyler County.

“As you are probaby aware, the bridge is one-lane and the deck is often in need of repair,” said Rolla Rentz, MoDOT Transportation Project Manager. “However since the bridge beams and supports are still in good condition, we are recommending replacing the deck and making other repairs instead of a full bridge replacement.”

MoDOT is currently seeking public input on the proposed project, which likely will occur during the summer, meaning fewer issues for school and agriculture vehicles.

Rentz indicated MoDOT is working on bridge plans in order to be prepared when funding becomes available for the project. She indicated that a new 22-foot wide deck has been recommended. The deck will have 11-foot wide lanes and the curbs would be replaced to help improve motorist safety.

By replacing the deck instead of the entire bridge, the project likely will save as much as $400,000 but will mean the road will be closed for two to three months during the project. Detours would reroute traffic to Highways 15 and 136 as well as Route A and other local access roads.

“We realize closing the road may be an inconvenience for you and your neighbors,” Rentz said. “Therefore, before we can proceed with detailed design of this project, we need your feedback.”

Anyone with comments about closing the road, or the project in general, can call MoDOT at 1-888-275-6636. Unless there are significant public concerns about the road closure, MoDOT will recommend that course of action for the bridge project.
