Holidays Are Main Focus Of MACC Meeting
Upcoming holidays were the main topic of discussion at the October meeting for the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce.
The MACC will once again be sponsoring a special Halloween movie at the Memphis Theatre. The free movie will be played at 9:00 p.m. following the regular weekly feature film. The chamber is requesting members make a $10 contribution to help offset the cost of the evening.
The Chamber will also once again be hosting the community safe stops for trick or treaters. MACC members will open their doors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31st with treats for the kids to celebrate Halloween.
The group also began making plans for the Christmas holiday. The renovation of the lights on the city square will force the organization to find a new promotion to replace the traditional “Lighting of the Square” that has been held for years on the Friday evening following Thanksgiving when the town’s Christmas lights were turned on for the first time.
Members discussed promoting the community decorating contest and also made plans to host drawings for several hundred dollars in Memphis bucks to be given away to lucky shoppers. Other ideas included promotional open houses for the businesses and an afternoon of Christmas cookie making for the kids.
