NRCS Reports EQIP Sign Up Deadline
Natural Resources Conservation Service has announced the next ranking period for EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentive Program) will be from October 17, 2005 to December 16, 2005. EQIP is a scored program that promotes agricultural production and environmental quality through the use of cost-share and incentive payments.
A partial list of eligible practices include traditional earthwork practices such as:
grassed waterways and terraces as well as, prescribed grazing systems, interior fencing when associated with a prescribed grazing system, pasture and hay land planting, field borders, cover crops, waste storage and transfer facilities, pest and nutrient management, and well decommissioning.
Each application is given a score based on the combination of practices that will be involved in the project. Applicants are ranked and compete on a local county level for funding. Last year Scotland County had more money than applicants, which lead to money being returned to the state to be disbursed to other counties.
If you have questions or would like to sign up for EQIP stop by the NRCS office in the USDA building in Memphis or call Andy Hodge at 660-465-7251 Ext. 114.
