Firemen Douse Small Blaze In Bean Field

The Scotland County fire department was dispatched to a fire in a soybean stubble field north of Memphis at 1:08 p.m. on Monday, October 17th.

Five firemen responded to the call on Route H to ground farmed by Stanley Eggleston. The fire had burned harvest residue in the field and was threatening to spread to a wooded ditch and on to a cut cornfield.

The fire was quickly brought under control after burning less than one acre.
