Kahoka Man Killed In Crash On Route H

A Kahoka man’s body was recovered from a creek bed in northeast Scotland County following a fatal traffic accident over the weekend.

Jimmy L. Carroll, 47, was pronounced dead at 12:26 p.m., Sunday, November 6th at the scene of the accident by Scotland County Coroner Ginny Monroe.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Carroll was westbound on Route H in a 1996 Toyota pickup when the truck failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway. The truck overturned and then rolled back onto its wheels before driving down an embankment and into a creek bed where it was partially submerged. The accident occurred approximately 15 miles from Memphis.

A passerby discovered the vehicle Sunday morning and reported the possibility of a body in the water.

Investigators have been unable to determine the time of the accident, but believed it occurred sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

The Scotland County Fire and Rescue squad performed the extrication and Carroll’s body was transported to Scotland County Memorial Hospital and then to Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.

An autopsy was performed Monday, November 7th in Kahoka by the Lee County Medical Examiner.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, the fire department and numerous volunteers.
