Santa’s Helpers Seeking Additional Public Support

It’s hard to believe that the holidays are upon us. Everyone is busy getting ready for Christmas, at home as well as at work.

People all across America celebrate Christmas in a variety of different ways. A popular custom among the children, is Jolly Ole’ St. Nick. Thousands of children in the United States this year will have no Christmas and St. Nick won’t be visiting. Some are foster kids, some have parents that have been laid off or illness has occurred and the medical bills are piling up.

These are children in our own community that St. Nick may miss this year.

Santa’s Helpers is a program where families in need can sign up their children, and participate in the “Adopt a Child” for the Holidays.

Last year, 60 children from Scotland County benefited from Santa’s Helpers.

Names are placed on a tree at Pamida and people can adopt one or more of these children and purchase items on their wish list. Many times the wish list consists of clothing, diapers and of course a toy or two.

We don’t want to take a chance that a family needs to add their children at the last minute or that there are names left on the tree. We do not want any child to go without, therefore, an account has been established at the Bank of Kirksville in Memphis for anyone wishing to make a contribution to Santa’s Helpers. Contributions may be dropped off at the bank, and it will be deposited directly into the Santa’s Helpers account.

Santa’s elves will finish any last minute shopping that is needed in the next few weeks. The shopping is only made possible with the continued support of people like you. Whether you adopt a child from the tree or give a monetary donation, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

We hope we can count on your support. Santa’s Helpers would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
