LILA BERNEICE COSSEL

Lila Berneice Cossel, 87, of Memphis, MO, died December 30, 2004, in the Scotland County Care Center at Memphis, MO.

The daughter of Noel Rae and Mabel Mae York McCullough, she was born September 9, 1917, in Schuyler County, MO.

She married William Kinney Cossel, November 28, 1935, at the Barker Church parsonage in Scotland County, MO. They enjoyed 67 years together. To this union four children were born, Bill, Carolyn, Jerry and Kathy.

She attended Brush Creek School through the eighth grade. She was a member of the Barker Methodist Church. Berneice enjoyed sewing, making quilts for her grandchildren and camping with her husband. She worked in the kitchen at the Memphis school.

She is survived by a son, William Rae and wife, Bonnie Cossel of Mondamin, IA; Carolyn Marie and husband, Raymond Rudicil of Edina, MO and Kathy Cossell of Cantril, IA; 10 grandchildren, James Rudicil of Edina, MO, Debbie Miller of Muskogee, OK, Melinda Wiley of Cantril, IA, Diane Rogers of Edina, MO, Leanna Probst of Pacific Junction, IA, Kinney Lee Cossel of Lawrenceville, PA, Brian Clark of Wagoner, OK, Julie Arnold of Gardner, KS, Linda Elliott of Las Vegas, NV, and Donnie Fowler of Kirksville, MO; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Heather Miller, Eric and Miranda Wiley, Aaron Hammer, Kilie and Bret Cossel, Sheridan Clark, Jeffrey Rethford, Michael Probst and Stacie Tague; two great-great-grandsons, Kyle and Mason. Other survivors include a special daughter-in-law, Marcie Rehm of Cantril, IA; a sister, Margaret Williams of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Harold McCullough of Ottumwa, IA; three sisters-in-law, Rosalie Spees of Memphis, MO; Marialee Cossel of Kahoka, MO, Marjorie McCullough of Bloomfield, IA; a special friend, Gracie Piper Cossel of Bloomfield, IA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Jerry Lee Cossel.

Funeral services were held January 3, 2005, at the Barker United Methodist Church in rural Scotland County with Reverend Charles Hammack officiating. Burial was in the Barker Cemetery. Casket bearers were Keith Miller, Jim Rudicil, Kinney Lee Cossel, Randy Wiley, Brian Clark, Duane Rogers, Cody Arnold and Danny Probst. Honorary casket bearers were Debbie Miller, Leanna Probst, Diane Rogers, Julie Arnold, Melinda Wiley and Linda Elliott.

A memorial to Barker Cemetery may be mailed to or left at the Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, MO 63555. Memphis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
