NUNZIO COLUMBUS

Nunzio Columbus, 95, of Corpus Christi, TX, formerly of the Wyaconda, MO area, died December 28, 2004 at the Trisun Nursing Home in Corpus Christi, TX.

He was born August 8, 1909 in Long Island City, New York, the son of Thomas and Domenica Randazzo Columbus. He was married to Josephine Tripicowski. She preceded him in death in 1946. He was later united in marriage to Ellen Isabelle Rayburn on October 31, 1948 in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on November 18, 1971.

Nunzio had worked as a plumber in Babylon, Long Island City, New York, retiring in 1962. He then moved to Wyaconda, MO where he farmed.

He worked hard, especially with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his flowerbeds. He loved fishing. Nunzio cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by seven daughters, Mary Chevalier, of Monticello, NY, Ann Lewis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Lena C. Nemec of Corpus Christie, TX, Catherine Lovett of Fort Madison, IA, Isabelle Stevenson of Picayune, MS, Janet Mae Alva Columbus of Baton Rouge, LA and Domenica Rose Columbus of Picayune, MS, nine sons, James Columbus of Palm Coast, FL, Joseph Columbus of Deer Park, L.I., NY, Theodore Columbus of Sanford, FL, Thomas Columbus of Sebastian, FL, Albert Columbus of Keokuk, IA, John Columbus of Middle Island, NY, Peter Columbus of Savannah, GA, Joseph Columbus of Sequin, Texas and Samuel Columbus of Naples, IL, 65 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Loretta Ellen Columbus and two sons, Nunzio Columbus, Jr. and Kenneth Joseph Columbus.

Graveside services were held January 2, 2005 at the Liberty Cemetery in rural Williamstown, MO with Father Paul Hartley officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Adam Stevenson, Scott Stevenson, Joseph Nemec, Kevin Nemec, Carl Rippenkroeger and William Stevenson. Memorials were made to the Liberty Cemetery.
