Henry L. Schell, 85, of Chillicothe, IL, died December 27, 2004, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL.

He was born March 17, 1919, in Keokuk, IA, to William and Pearl Anders Schell.

He married Dorothy Walker on September 10, 1939, in Kahoka, MO. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Carol (and Roger) Koehler of Peoria, IL; one son, Danny (and Dianne) of Dunlap, IL; one sister, Louise (and John) Napoli of Richland, WA; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a radar operator in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Salerno Bay. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4999, and American Legion Post 9.

A lifetime member of the United Trainman’s Union 445, he was a conductor on the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a lifetime member of the Peoria Casting Club and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe, IL, where services were held December 31, 2004. The Rev. Glenn Harris officiated. Burial was in the Chillicothe City Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by his Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts. Memorials may be made to Rescue 33, his church or the Pulmonary Fibrous Foundation.
