ELIZABETH COTTEY
(3/4/1909 – 2/9/2005)



Elizabeth Cottey, 95, of Lancaster, MO, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on February 9, 2005.

The daughter of Walter A. and Iva Edna (Reeves) Higbee, she was born on March 4, 1909, in Schuyler County, MO. Elizabeth was a graduate of the Lancaster High School and later was a graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.

On May 24, 1930, in Columbia, MO, she was united in marriage to Louis Francis Cottey II and to this union three sons were born, Lou, John and Jim.

Elizabeth “Plum” is survived by two sons, John H. Cottey and wife, Donna of Dallas, TX and James E. Cottey and wife, Clara of Lancaster, daughters-in-law, Joyce Otten of Kirksville, MO, and Patty Cottey of Mexico; 10 grandchildren, Louis Francis Cottey IV, William Ernest Cottey II, Carolyn Sue (Cottey) Bohnert, Elizabeth Ann Cottey, Dr. John Higbee Cottey II, Dr. Christine Elizabeth (Cottey) Page, Lesley Llewellyn (Cottey) Gerrese’, Dr. Jo Ellen Reeves (Cottey) Krueger, Kurt Walter Cottey and Theresa Lynn (Cottey) Anderson plus 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Cottey on October 4, 1988; one son, Louis F. Cottey III; one granddaughter, Lynn Cottey and one grandson, Thomas Cottey.

Elizabeth was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church of Lancaster, MO, and a 75 year member of the Chapter E, PEO Sisterhood.

Funeral services were held on February 12, 2005, at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, MO with Rob Green officiating. Music was provided by organist Barbara Winans, soloists, Deanna Brinegar, Karla Deahl and Beth Gravett. Church service pallbearers were Quinten Smyser, Manley Smyser, Mark Smyser, Darl Buckallew, Harl Buckallew, John Tippett, Phil Beeler, and Walter Burnett. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Willcox, Tom Oswald and Dan Burns. Graveside service pallbearers were Louis Francis Cottey IV, William Ernest Cottey, Carolyn Sue (Cottey) Bohnert, Elizabeth Ann Cottey, Dr. John Higbee Cottey II, Dr. Christine Elizabeth (Cottey) Page, Lesley Llewellyn (Cottey) Gerresse’, Dr. Jo Ellen Reeves (Cottey) Krueger, Kurt Walter Cottey, Theresa Lynn (Cottey) Anderson. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial was in the Bee Ridge Cemetery southeast of Edina, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
