Harold Edgar Strong, 78, of Memphis, MO, died on March 14, 2005, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

Harold was born on February 23, 1927, in Cantril, IA, the son of Philip and Nellie Belle Blackburn Strong.

Harold was in the Army during World War II and spent time in the European Operation. Harold had worked for the City of Memphis for more than 42 years. He was a trusted employee and seldom took a vacation or sick leave.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and two brothers.

Harold is survived by five sisters, Mary Evelyn Justice of Berrien Springs, MI, Hazel Drummond of Santa Fe Springs, CA, Nellie Belle Howard and husband, Hillis of Avon, IL, Hila Lamb of Ottumwa, IA, and Donna VeHatley of Dupo, IL; one sister-in-law, Thelma Strong of Memphis, MO; also several nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County Cancer Fund or the Nutrition Site and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held March 19, 2005, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Bro. Jack Sumption officiating. Musicians were Velva Freburg, organist, and Dennis Strong, soloist. Pallbearers were Duane Howard, Stanley Strong, Richard Strong, Wally Kugelman, Randall Aldridge, and Gary Neagle. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO.
