LAURA JEAN KIRKPATRICK
(10/12/1929 – 4/22/2005)



Laura Jean Kirkpatrick, 75, of Memphis, MO, passed away at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, MO, April 22, 2005, after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes.

She was born October 12, 1929, in rural Scotland County, MO, the daughter of Rubel Wayne and Blanche E. Sweeney Ludwick.

Laura Jean attended rural schools in Scotland County and graduated from Memphis High School. She attended Kirksville State Teachers College, Kirksville, MO, and then taught school for two years at Union Grove and Center Point Schools.

She was married to Edwin Leroy Kirkpatrick. They had six children.

Laura Jean cared for the children and baby-sat for many other children in her home while the children were growing up. She started working at the Scotland County Care Center in 1976 and worked there as a nurse’s aide and med aide for over 20 years. When she worked weekends, Daryl attended the Christian Church with her Aunt Grace Forrester. Laura Jean and her son, Daryl Mark became members of the Memphis Christian Church. Laura Jean enjoyed her family, her friends, cooking, gardening, and her flowers.

Surviving relatives include one brother, Richard D. Ludwick and wife, Sherry of Cedar Rapids, IA; one sister, Reva Fincher and husband, Kenneth of Junction City, KS. She is also survived by five sons and one daughter, Ronald Edwin Kirkpatrick and wife, Margaret of Norwalk, IA, Donald Leroy Kirkpatrick and special friend, Chris Jacobsen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mrs. Duane (Sandra Gayle) Arnold of Memphis, MO, Michael Wayne Kirkpatrick of Joilet, IL, Kevin Burl Kirkpatrick of Marion, IA, Daryl Mark Kirkpatrick and wife, Kathy of Toledo, OH; nine grandchildren, Nathan Duane Arnold and fiancé Angela Middletown of Liberty, MO, Todd Michael Arnold and wife, Jill of Columbia, MO, Angela Tara Kirkpatrick Gallo and husband, Mitch of Cedar Rapids, IA, Noah James Kirkpatrick and wife, Danielle of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kimberly Ann Kirkpatrick of St. Andrews, Scotland, and Gareth Kirkpatrick of Edinburg, Scotland, Kerry Aislyn, Kaitlyn Marie and Kayla Lauren Kirkpatrick of Toledo, OH; one great-grandchild, Connor Jeremy Arnold, and many other relatives and friends. She will be sadly missed.

Laura Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Emma Lu Chance and a special friend, Lee Walker.

The family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County Nutrition Center, and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held April 26, 2005, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with the Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Musicians were Ann Luther, organist, and soloist, Angela Westhoff. Pallbearers were Noah Kirkpatrick, Gareth Kirkpatrick, Sterling Forrester, Joel Kapfer, Todd Arnold and Nathan Arnold. Interment was in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Scotland County, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO.
