Austin Everet Eggleston, of Memphis, MO, passed away May 1, 2005, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

Austin was born May 21, 1914, in Scotland County, MO, the son of John and Violet (Hyde) Eggleston.

He grew up in the Brock community on the family farm. He attended the Brock School and Memphis High School.

On September 7, 1940, he married Mildred Lough, who survives. They were married at the Christian Church in Memphis, MO. Together they started and spent many years on their own livestock farming operation.

He is also survived by daughter, Jane and granddaughter, Jada of Merriam, KS; two sons, Stan and wife, Patty and granddaughters, Sara and Julie of Memphis, MO, and John and wife, Dee Dee of Memphis, MO.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert; and a sister, Ida. His only grandson, Damen preceded him in death in 1994.

Austin was a member of the Brock Methodist Church and was a trustee of the Brock Cemetery for many years. He served on the FHA Board and on the Board of Directors of Tri-County Electric for several years.

Besides his love for his family, he most enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and neighbors, fishing, and reading western novels. His sense of humor and loving manner will be greatly missed.

The family has suggested memorials to the Scotland County Ambulance District and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held May 4, 2005, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO with Rev. Carol Blackwell officiating. Musicians were Schelle Cooley, soloist, and Ann Luther, organist. Pallbearers were Roy Hyde, Bill Kiddoo, Bob Henselman, Steve Morris, John D. Aylward, and Alvin Good. Honorary bearers were Ched Bull, Bill Ebling, Hollis Boyer, and Stanley Bull. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
