Bernadine (Bee) McPherson Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the age of 83 after a sudden illness.

Born December 11, 1921, in Rutledge in Scotland County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Walter and Lena Margaret Smith McPherson.

After graduating from high school in Memphis, Missouri and attending Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois, Bee moved to Fort Worth in 1943 to work for Memphis-based Leach Hatcheries, Inc. There she met her husband of fifty-nine years, James Avery Smith, whom she married on January 26, 1946, following his World War II service in the Air Force.

In later years, along with her husband, Bee operated the Smith Shoppe, an antiques business in the Arlington Heights section of Fort Worth, and enjoyed local Scottish Clan events.

Predeceased by her parents and a brother who died in infancy, Bee is survived by her husband Jim; her sister Faye LaVaughn Steeples and niece Laura Steeples Portwood of Houston, Texas; niece Jane Steeples Aoyagi of Westfield, NJ; great-nieces Mary Elizabeth and Martha Amanda Portwood; great-nephew Austin Steeples Aoyagi; longtime neighbor and family friend Patsy Bronson Brewer; numerous cousins and friends.
