LAVERNE E. “JACK” HUMES
(12/22/1928 - 8/11/2005)



LaVerne Edward “Jack” Humes, age 76, of Wyaconda, MO, passed away August 11, 2005 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

He was born December 22, 1928 at Montrose, IA, a son of Ernest and Rhea Stevenson Humes.

He and Zelma Joann Baker were united in marriage on April 16, 1955 at the Kahoka Christian Church and had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past April.

He is survived by his wife, Joann, of Wyaconda, MO; two daughters, Mary Ann Robertson and her husband, Dennis, of Memphis, MO, and Susan Douglas and her husband, Don, of Macon, MO; six grandchildren: Pamela Robertson of Fort Collins, CO, Michael Robertson of Overland Park, KS, Aaron Cline of Columbia, MO, and, Lee, Dade, and Donovan Douglas, all of Macon, MO; four brothers: Joseph A. “A.J.” Humes and his wife, Lois, Alfred L. Humes and his wife, Darlene, and Ernest L. “Doc” Humes and his wife, Louise, all of Wyaconda, MO, and James L. Humes and his wife, Gaye, of Burlington, IA; three sisters, Patricia “Pat” Varnold of Keokuk, IA, Dora Fogle and her husband, Don, of Memphis, MO, and Mary J. Fleer and her husband, Bob, of Quincy, IL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Charles M. and Pauline Baker of Charleston, IL, Carrol and Linda Baker of Joliet, IL, Stephen Miyagawa of Chicago, IL, Nadine and Ramoth Carlen of Bonnie, IL, Melba and George Von Lanken of Hopkinsville, KY, and Joyce and Lou Palm of Omaha, NE; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Yuvonne Rae, and Randal Eric; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Wanda Miyagawa, Bill and Virginia Baker, and Bob Varnold.

Although Jack had to quit school following 8th grade to help his family, he had developed a love for reading and had the ability to retain whatever he had read. His life revolved around farming and family and as long as his health permitted he had farmed and operated a bulldozer in Clark County.

He was a member of the Wyaconda Christian Church. He enjoyed collecting train sets and toy tractors and equipment. He truly loved his dog, Sadie, and his grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 14, 2005 at the Wyaconda Christian Church with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Pastor Herb Doty officiating. Mrs. Phyllis Hutchinson was organist.

Honorary pallbearers were Donovan, Dade, and Lee Douglas, Aaron Cline, Michael and Pamela Robertson, and Christopher and Andrew Humes.

Pallbearers were Joe B. Humes, Faron Fogle, Mark Humes, Bill Humes, Dick Humes, and Rob Humes.

Burial was in Wyaconda Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to the Wyaconda Christian Church or the donor’s choice.

Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
