JOHN GEORGE GRISTE

John George Griste was born in Lancaster, MO, April 28, 1922.

He served proudly in the USMC overseas in World War II. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Education from the University of Missouri. John then moved to Tucson, AZ in 1956 where he taught and coached football at Pueblo High School. He taught and inspired hundreds of Tucson youth at Catalina High School, completing his highly respected 40-year career teaching at Santa Rita High School. Considered a great teacher, highly skillful football coach and one of the top sports officials in Arizona, he retired in 1983, but never gave up his love of teaching.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Essie (Whitacre) Griste and Ed Griste.

He leaves behind his wife, Margo; children, Patrice, Cindy, John David and Alan; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a first cousin, Hildred Gardine of Memphis, MO; and many grateful students and friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Arnie Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO, September 1, 2005, at 1:00 p.m.
