GOLDIE M. DONELSON
(5/12/1904 – 9/23/2005)



Goldie M. Donelson, 101, of Palmyra, Missouri, died September 23, 2005 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Goldie was born May 12, 1904 at Marion County, Missouri to Jacob W. and Genevieve M. Mooter Patre.

Goldie was married to Ralph H. Donelson on March 6, 1926 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death March 12, 1993.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Harlo L. Donelson & wife, Joyce of Memphis, MO; daughters Norma J. Smyser and husband, Randy of Palmyra; Sally A. Bird and husband, David of Crystal Lake, IL; sister Genevieve Bax of Quincy, IL.; grandchildren Wesley Donelson and wife, Debra of Bellmore, NY; Terrie Buckwalter and husband, David, Mark Ragar and wife, Sherri, Marty Smyser and wife, Mary Ellen, Kevin Smyser, and wife, Kelly, Kyle Smyser and wife, Teresa, all of Palmyra; Jennifer Bird of Los Angeles, CA; Stephanie Williams and husband, Alan of Arlington Heights, IL; great-grandchildren, Alan, Lucas, Jessica and Jacob Buckwalter, Wyatt, Bethany, Jordan, and Madison Ragar, Marty J. Smyser II, Rachel Luckett, Matthew, Morgan and Mackenzie Smyser, and Josh, Nicholas, Lindsay, Alex, and Sidney Smyser; and great-great-grandchildren Izabella and Nicolette Donelson, and Quinn Patre Williams and Owen Williams, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, George Patre, and sisters, Helen Henneberger, Gladys Donelson, and a son-in-law, Melvin L. Ragar.

Goldie graduated from Palmyra High School in 1923, received her teaching certificate from Culver Stockton College and taught in Marion County schools. She was a lifelong member of Palmyra First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was the first woman elected to the Board of Elders. She taught Sunday School classes for many years and also sang in the choir. She helped start the hot lunch program in the Palmyra schools. She was a charter member of the Cloverleaf Saddle Club in Palmyra. Goldie joined the Stanley Home Products Company in April of 1947. She was able to travel to all 50 states, including Alaska in 1994.

Funeral services were held September 26, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Palmyra with Mr. Dennis Fletcher officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri.

Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church “Special Fund”, Maple Lawn Auxiliary, Palmyra Nutrition Center, or American Legion Loan Closet in Goldie’s honor.

Casket bearers were Wesley Donelson, David Buckwalter, Alan Williams, Mark Ragar, Marty Smyser, Kevin Smyser, and Kyle Smyser. Honorary bearers were her great-grandchildren. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisbrothers-funeralchapel.com.
