James C. Janssen, Jr., 69, of Spanaway, Washington, formerly of Rutledge, Missouri, died September 30, 2005, in Tacoma, Washington.

He was born in Pekin, Illinois, July 1, 1936, the son of James and Annette (Groth) Janssen.

He married Barbara Carson in 1958, and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters, one son, one step-daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Willard Garvey of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, and Beverly and Kenneth Dieterich of Arbela, Missouri. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Jim graduated from Memphis High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. In civilian life, he was a barber on the Navy base near his home in Spanaway, Washington.

Memorial services and inurnment were held October 7, 2005, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, with Bishop Kevin Fifield officiating.

Honor guard was provided by the United States Navy Veterans Service Organization.

Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Association.
