DORIS M. SHAFFER
(4/27/1929- 10/31/2005)



Doris M. Shaffer, 76, of Quincy, IL, died October 31, 2005 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, IL.

She was born April 27, 1929 in Memphis, MO, a daughter of O.M. (Jack) and Fern Davis Orton.

She married Algernon Cecil Baker in 1947. He died in 1964. On February 15, 1975, she married Melvin “Ike” Shaffer in Quincy, IL. He survives.

Mrs. Shaffer was a waitress for 60 years, the last 30 of which were at the Coach House Restaurant. She retired in August. She loved her job and her customers.

She was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

She was very family oriented and loved all types of animals. Anyone who knew her, loved her.

Survivors include six children, Larry M. Baker and his wife, Lynn of Houston, TX; Jean L. Holt and her husband Philip, of Quincy, IL; R.C. Baker and his wife Linda, of Quincy; Neal A. Baker and his wife, Cathe of Quincy; Boyd M. Baker and his wife, Beverly of Macomb, IL; and Bruce L. Baker and his wife, Jill of Quincy; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren a brother, James Orton of Quincy; a sister Christine Briggs and her husband, Richard, of Memphis, MO; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was prceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Orton; a sister, Jacqueline Orton; and a son, Charles A. Baker.

Services were held November 4, 2005 at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church by Reverend Larry Troxel. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The Hansen-Spear Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
