MARGARET I. SMITH
(10/10/1917 – 11/13/2005)



Margaret I. Smith, 88, of Purdy, MO, passed away on November 13, 2005, at Cox Memorial Hospital in Monett, MO.

She was born October 10, 1917 in Luray, MO, the daughter of William and Ruby Kerr Derksen.

She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother.

Margaret married Edward E. Smith on August 29, 1936, in Memphis, MO, and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Smith and wife, Carol of Purdy, MO; two brothers, Donald Derksen and wife, Betty of O’Fallon, MO, and William Derksen and wife, Rose of West Point, IA; and daughter-in-law, Pat Smith of Memphis, MO; five grandchildren, Rhonda Mathes and husband, Doug, and Robyn Smith of Memphis, MO, Ryan Smith and wife, Alicia of Keokuk, IA, Scott Smith and wife, Stephanie, and Shana Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO; and seven great-grandchildren, Aaron Smith of Germany, Andrew Mathes of Memphis, MO, Kolton, Braydon, and Evan Smith of Keokuk, IA, Sydnee and Ethan Smith of Lee’s Summit, MO, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; one son, Bill Smith; two sisters, Maxine McCoy and Betty Crosby; and one grandchild, Rusty Smith.

Services were held November 16, 2005, at Buchanan Chapel in Monett, MO with Rev. Charlie Lauderdale officiating. Pallbearers were Nolan McNeil, Ernest Cowherd, Ryan Smith, Alan Keeling, Scott Smith and Neal Dent. Burial was in Longview Cemetery near Purdy, MO. Memorials may be made to Longview Church near Purdy.
