CARMI REICH STAUFFER
(11/20/1913 – 11/20/2005)



Carmi Reich Stauffer, 92, of Memphis, formerly of Ephrata, PA, passed away November 20, 2005 at the home of George N. Zimmerman in Memphis.

He was born the son of Daniel B. and Barbara Reich Stauffer on November 20, 1913 in Hinkletown (Earl Township), PA.

Carmi was a member of the Martindale (PA) Mennonite Church (Weaverland Mennonite Conference). He worked in maintenance at the Ephrata Community Hospital for 12 years and at Rutts Furniture Store for 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers: Issac, Adam, Jared and Caleb Stauffer and three sisters: Naomi Auker, Magdalena Mitchell, and Eva Stauffer.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Mae Stauffer of Memphis; children, Julia Ann and husband George Zimmerman of Memphis, Lucille and husband Mark Horning of Red Run Road, PA, Mary Joyce and husband Leon Horst of Baring, and Daniel and wife Jane Stauffer of Ephrata, PA; a sister, Rachel and husband Clayton S. Martin of Rt. Litiz, PA; 35 grandchildren; 86 great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Local funeral services were November 22 at the George N. Zimmerman home in Memphis and at Indian Creek Mennonite Church in Scotland County. Local ministers were Titus Martin, Luke Fox, Irvin Weaver, and Abner Oberholtzer. Local body bearers were Albert, George, and Aaron Horst and Edward, George and Paul S. Zimmerman.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 24 at the Fairmont Home in Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 25 at the Martindale (PA) Mennonite Church. Harlan Martin will officiate the service at the Fairmont Home. Merle Nolt will officiate the service at the graveside. Bishop Amos Martin, Ivan B Hurst, and Charles Zimmerman will officiate the service at the church.

Memorials have been suggested to the Indian Creek Mennonite Church and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO 63555.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Gerth Funeral Service from their Memphis chapel.
