MARY ELIZABETH GLASS

Mary Elizabeth Glass, 95, of Memphis passed away Sunday evening, November 27, 2005 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis. She was born the daughter of John Henry and Ella (Fehr) Clatt on October 30, 1910 in Scotland County, MO. Mary married C.E. Glass on May 14, 1933. He preceded her in death December 27, 1991. The couple farmed in southeast Memphis off of Ridge Road for over 50 years. Mary moved to Memphis after her husband died. She was a lifelong Scotland County resident. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Memphis. Mary enjoyed sewing, cooking and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed puzzles of any kind and liked to play bingo. Most of all, she treasured her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Barbara; a twin sister, Martha Sears; two sisters, Lydia Blaine and Ruth McHenry; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her: daughter, Irene Owings of Memphis; sons, John (J.C.) Glass and his wife Sue of Hannibal; Audrey Glass and his wife Betty of Memphis; Rudy Glass and his wife Renee of Payson, Illinois; brothers, Paul and Noah Clatt of Memphis; grandchildren, Rebecca Griffin of Pekin, Illinois, John Wm. Glass and Elizabeth Glass of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Clayton Forquer of Kirksville, Clinton Forquer of Arbela, Clifford Forquer, Chris Forquer, and Curtis Forquer of Memphis, Lisa Huston of Kahoka, Hazel Owings and Thomas Glass of Memphis, Lorrie Sandberg of Penn, North Dakota, David Reardon of Novinger, John Michael Reardon of Kahoka, Ginger Sutherland of Sedalia, Gloria Kirby of Quincy, and Mathew Glass of St. Paul, Minnesota; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held December 1, 2005 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Special music was provided by Ann Luther, organist. Serving as pallbearers were Mary’s grandsons. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO 63555.
