JERRY WILLIAM CHILDRESS
(9/25/1934 - 12/14/2005)



Jerry William Childress, 71, of Edina, Missouri, passed away December 14, 2005, at his residence in Edina, Missouri.

He was born on September 25, 1934, in rural Scotland County, Missouri, the son of L.E. “Jack” and Evyonne “Shorty” Fryrear Childress.

Jerry was raised on the family farm north of Greensburg, Missouri and attended Frogge Rural School and Scotland County High School graduating in 1952. He operated a bowling alley, motel and Tasty Freeze in Kahoka, Missouri before moving to Louisiana where he was employed with the USDA. Jerry later returned to Missouri where he owned and operated the Childress Grain Co. in Baring and Auxvasse, Missouri.

On December 27, 1958 at the St. Aloysius Church in Baring, Missouri, he married Minnie A. Karhoff.

Jerry and Minnie were members of the Baring Country Club, Edina Country Club and the Knox County Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife Minnie Childress of Edina, Missouri; a son, Jay and his wife Cynthia Childress of Edina, Missouri; two brothers, Harold Childress of Gorin, Missouri and Larry and his wife Sharon Childress of Brashear, Missouri; a sister: Betty Lou Frogge of O’Fallon, Missouri; and a granddaughter: Clarissa Childress of Edina, Missouri. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Aucutt of Edina, Missouri, Peggy Shahan of Clark, Missouri and Bonnie Karhoff of Mexico, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Junior and his wife Carla Karhoff of Auxvasse, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two children: Kelly Ann and Jerry Lloyd Childress on March 10, 1969, three brothers-in-law: Vernon Frogge, Bobby Aucutt, David Shahan and Larry Karhoff, and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Childress.

Christian burial services were December 16, 2005, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, Missouri. Fr. Bill Kottenstette and Reverend Ken Berry officiated and music was provided by Nancy Reardon and Brenton Karhoff. Casket bearers were Don Woodward, Kent Martin, Chris Stuebben, Jack Dannenhauer, Don Hyde and Dennis Shaffer. Honorary bearers were Delbert Shaffer, Jerry Novack, Jack Goosey, Russi Bhesania and Darrel J. Stone.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Jerry Childress may be left to the Knox County Ambulance District or the St. Joseph Catholic Parrish. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.
