JACK B. SHELTON
(7/7/1918 - 12/21/2005)



Jack B. Shelton, 87, of Memphis, Missouri, died December 21, 2005 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.

He was born July 7, 1918 at Memphis, Missouri to Ben and Rita Shelton.

He attended school in Kirksville, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958.

He married Beulah Darlene “Billie” Scott on June 17, 1939 in Memphis, Missouri. To this union six sons and a daughter were born.

He worked as a maintenance supervisor at Blue Ridge Towers in Independence, Missouri for fifteen years. Jack loved to hunt and fish and to work on small engines including the repair of lawn mowers. He was a proficient welder and carpenter.

He is survived by five sons: Gary Shelton of Milton, Iowa; Robert Shelton of Quincy, Illinois; Ron Shelton and his wife, Romona, of Ashland, Missouri; Bill Shelton and his wife, Cindy, of Independence, Missouri and Lanny Shelton of Queen City, Missouri. Other survivors include eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Winn of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and two brothers; Donald Shelton of Vevay, Indiana and Jim Shelton of Fort Madison, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Jack Shelton; a daughter, Carmelita Shelton and four brothers; Paul Shelton, Lloyd Shelton, Francis Shelton and David Shelton.

Graveside services were held in the Memphis Cemetery on December 23, 2005 with the Reverend Romona Shelton officiating. Honorary casket bearers were grandchildren; Gary W. Shelton, Michael D. Shelton, Jack Shelton, Jennifer Shelton, Steven Shelton and great-grandsons; Mike Shelton and Gary Shelton. Military Rites were afforded by the Wallace W. Gillespie VFW Post #4958.

Memorials may be made to the family and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
