SCR-I Defense ‘Blacks Out’ Canton In 58-38 Win
Junior Ali Fromm scored her 1,000 career point with a lay-up at the 6:38 mark in the first quarter as the Lady Tigers rolled to the victory.
It was “Black Out” night Friday at Scotland County gym when the SCR-I Lady Tigers hosted Canton. The theme called for fans to dress in black to match the Scotland County home uniforms. But the motif also was carried over on the court as the Lady Tigers defense pretty much blacked out any Canton scoring chances in a 58-38 victory.
Scotland County had no trouble scoring early. After Rebecca Consbrock scored with a jumper to open the game, Ali Fromm scored on a drive to the basket. That hoop gave the junior 1,000 career points. There were plenty more where that came from.
Fromm’s two free throws made it 7-2 with just under three minutes left in the first period. Brittney Courtright took over from there, scoring six straight points in her best performance since returning from a foot injury that has limited her playing time the past two weeks.
Fromm knocked down a three pointer before Ashley Ellison punctuated a near perfect first quarter with a three pointer at the buzzer to put the home team on top 20-4.
Kayla Ebeling scored to start the second period as the advantage approached blow out proportions. Fromm continued to add to her totals, going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line before sending her team into the locker room with a three pointer to make the lead 32-12.
The Lady Tigers opened the third period with a 7-0 run. Fromm hit a three pointer and followed it up with a drive to the hoop before Angie Bulen scored in the paint to make it 39-12.
Canton responded with a 9-0 run to end the period trailing 39-21.
Bulen and Courtright went to work in the paint in the final eight minutes of the game. Each post player had a pair of buckets. Jacqui Drummond knocked down a three pointer as SCR-I went on to the easy 58-38 win. Fromm finished with 21 points to lead all scorers. Courtright finished with 12 points and Bulen added seven as the Lady Tigers improved to 7-6. Canton (3-9) was led by Danielle Caldwell with 16 points.
Scotland County was victorious in the junior varsity contest by a final score of 29-18.
