Lady Tigers Open League Play With Win

The Scotland County basketball teams could have used some frequent flyer cards as they made their fourth trip in just eight days to North Shelby.

Just three days after hoisting the championship trophy from the North Shelby Tournament, the Lady Tigers returned to the gym on Tuesday night to face off against the Raiders as the Tri-Rivers Conference season opened.

Once again it was like a home away from home as SCR-I won its fourth straight game on the court.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Scotland County, which got off to a rough start and trailed the host Raiders 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Tigers rallied to pull ahead 27-25 at halftime before clamping down on defense after the intermission. SCR-I allowed just 14 points in the game’s final 16 minutes to secure the 50-39 victory.

Scotland County (11-6, 1-0) made it six straight wins while opening league play with the victory. Ali Fromm led all scorers with 19 points. Brittney Courtright continues her return to all-conference form as she battles back from the foot injury that cost her most of the first half of the year. The junior center scored 11 points in the win.

Jessica Bolte scored 17 points for North Shelby (6-9, 1-2).
