SCR-I Wins Trophy At Monroe City Quiz Bowl Tournament

An opening round match-up against eventual champion Kirksville sent the Tigers to the consolation side of the Monroe City Tournament, February 5. But that was the lone setback in the finals for the Tigers, who picked up victories in the next two matches to bring home a trophy.

The opening games were trouble for the Tigers, who dropped the first game of the day to Mexico 345-210 despite 110 points from Julie Triplett.

SCR-Iís tenure in the tourney looked short-lived as the Tigers found themselves trailing South Shelby 145-95 at halftime. But Scotland County rallied in the fourth quarter to prevail 270-255. Lance Smith answered seven toss-up questions and Triplett had six.

Game three was another rally as the Tigers came from behind to beat Clark County 305-270 to earn a birth in the finals bracket. Triplett answered nine toss-ups while Smith pitched in with seven.

Tourney champions Kirksville handed the Tigers a 585-180 defeat in the finals opener.

But SCR-I got back on track with a 350-155 defeat of Highland. Smith answered 10 toss-up questions. Triplett and Loren Billington both answered five questions and Michelle Lodewegen answered three.

True to tourney form, the Tigers rallied one last time, erasing a 35-point deficit late in the contest to beat Macon 350-290 to win the consolation trophy. Triplett answered seven toss-up questions. Lodewegen buzzed in on six questions while Smith answered five.
