Canton Upsets Lady Tigers 52-31

Scotland County may have been thinking too much about the message it wanted to send when it finally got its rematch with Canton, which knocked off the Lady Tigers in last seasonís district championship.

Just a week away from the start of the district tourney, SCR-I traveled to the river for a rematch it had been looking forward to all year long.

SCR-I will now have to focus on getting another shot at revenge after Canton (10-15) shocked SCR-I in a 52-31 upset.

Canton was the second district rival to shutdown SCR-Iís offense in the past few weeks, sending up a red flag heading into tournament time. The home team clamped down on SCR-Iís leading scorer Ali Fromm, holding her to just 11 points, more than 10 points below her season average, which leads the tri-state area.

SCR-I was unable to get things done offensively. The Lady Tigers fell behind 15-8 after the first period. The deficit grew to 25-16 at halftime before the offense really went south for SCR-I. The Lady Tigers managed just three points in the third quarter as the game slipped away.

Fromm led SCR-I with 11 points. Valerie Crawford added five points and Ashlee Frederick and Jamie Fuller each had four points.

Canton was led by Haley Mims with 17 points and Cara Feldkamp with 11 points.

SCR-I, which fell to 14-10 on the year with the loss, likely could earn a rematch in the district semifinals. If the #2 seeded Lady Tigers beat LaPlata and #3 seeded Canton gets by #6 Knox County, the two teams will meet in the district semifinals this week.
