Lady Tigers Smash LaPlata 76-26 To Open District Play

If LaPlata had upset on its mind heading into its district opener against the Lady Tigers, it quickly turned to thoughts of an upset stomach as SCR-I jumped out to a 23-5 lead en route to a 76-26 whitewashing of the Lady Bulldogs.

Scotland County, the #2 seed in the Class 2 District 5 Tournament, held court on Tuesday night, dispatching the undermanned #6 seed LaPlata by 50 points.

Angie Bulen got SCR-I off on the right foot with four quick points. Valerie Crawford canned a three pointer on her way to seven first period points as the Lady Tigers built a double-digit bulge.

The pace slowed a bit in the second period as SCR-I got its younger players some district experience. The Lady Tigers still outscored LaPlata 16-7 thanks to six points from freshman Jessica Bair.

Scotland County put the finishing touches on the game in the third period. The Lady Tigers went on a 28-7 run to make the score 67-19.

SCR-I outscored LaPlata 9-7 in the game’s final eight minutes to produce a final score of 76-26.

SCR-I improved to 16-10 and advanced to an anticipated semifinals rematch with Canton on Thursday night. The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Crawford, Jamie Fuller and Ali Fromm who finished with 13 points. Ashlee Frederick added eight points while Leslie Duley and Rebecca Consbrock each had seven points.
