SCR-I Golf Team ‘Blown Away’ at Kirksville Tourney

Windy, cold conditions made Saturday unfit for most outdoor activities, but it didn’t prevent 18 area high school teams from competing in the Kirksville Invitational golf tournament.

While it didn’t keep the teams from competing, it definitely took its toll on some of the scores, particularly for Scotland County, which finished 15th on the day with a round of 391. The finish spot also may have had something to do with the competition level, which featured some of the bigger schools in the state.

Hickman won the tournament easily, scoring a 320 behind the top two individual performances. Nick Wilson shot a 76 followed by Kyle Kovar with an 80 to pace the Class 4 school to a win, which had five of the top six individual scores.

Kirksville edged out Trenton by one stroke to take second place with a score of 351.

Rounding out the top 10 were Marshall (360), Jefferson City (360), Hannibal (362) Wentzville-Holt (363), Rock Bridge (365), Highland (370) and Schuyler County (372).

Keokuk, IA shot a 382, followed by Helias (383), Mexico (389), Kirksville 2 (390). The Tigers finished ahead of Moberly (394), LaPlata (406) and Macon (419).

Matt Wickert shot a 91 to pace the Tigers. Travis Trueblood shot a 99 followed by Joe Spurgeon (100), Marcus Shalley (101) and Kyle Lister (103).
