Slow Start Dooms Tigers In Tournament Title Game

The Scotland County Tigers must have felt like the basket had shrunk to the size of a gopher hole in the first quarter of the championship game of the Novinger Tourney. The Green City Gophers opened a commanding 19-2 advantage in the game’s opening eight minutes as SCR-I struggled offensively and saw two key starters saddled with early foul trouble.

Jeremiah Tarver led the Gophers with nine points during the key run.

Scotland County came alive in the second period as Grant Blomme came off the bench to score five points to help the Tigers trim the deficit to 31-17 at halftime.

The Tigers continued to whittle away at the Hornets lead. Cody Musgrove scored in the paint to close out the third period with SCR-I trailing by just 10 points, 37-27.

A bucket by Chris Humes to open the fourth quarter shrank the margin to single digits but that proved to be as close as Scotland County could get. Green City closed the game with a 13-7 run to seal the 50-34 victory.

Tarver finished with a game-high 19-points to help keep Green City undefeated.

SCR-I dropped to 2-1 on the year and settled for second place in the season-opening tourney. Bryce Blomme led the Tigers with nine points. Grant Blomme finished with seven points and Humes and Musgrove each had six points.
