Both of the Scotland County varsity basketball teams will return to action January 2nd as play opens in the 34th Annual Highland Basketball Tournament.

The boys are seeded sixth in the event and will open vs. #3 seeded Clark County at 9:00 p.m. on January 2nd. The winner will advance to play the winner from the Highland (#2) vs. Unity of Mendon (#7) game. That semi-finals contest is slotted for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5th.

An opening-round loss would send the team into the consolation bracket for the 6:30 p.m. game to be held Wednesday, January 4th.

Canton, the top seed in the event, received an opening round bye. The other first-round game pits Putnam County (#4) vs. Palmyra (#5).

The boys consolation game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Jan. 5th. The third place game will be played January 6th at 8:00 p.m. with the title tilt set for Saturday, Jan. 7th at 7:30 p.m.

The girls will participate in two, three-team pools. Pool A features top ranked Clark County along with #4 seed Canto and fifth seeded Scotland County. Pool B is headed by #2 seed Palmyra along with Highland (#3) and Putnam County (#6).

SCR-I opens play Monday, January 2nd at 7:30 p.m. versus Clark County.

The Lady Tigers will then play Canton on Tuesday, January 3rd at 8:00 p.m.

Final match-ups will be based on records in pool play.
