County Cancer Fund Planning Money Makers

The local Scotland County Cancer Fund has been planning fund raisers for the coming year.

On January 29, there will be an inside washer tournament at the VFW Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m. Each team will consist of two people with the entry fee being $30.00 per team. Those wishing to compete in the tournament should call Margaret Curry at 660-328-6225 to sign up. Deadline for entries is January 20th. Soup and sandwiches will be available for a free-will donation.

On February 25th the second annual ham and bean supper and auction will be held at the VFW Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Local businesses will be contacted for donations. Anyone wishing to donate items to be auctioned may contact any of the board members, Margaret Curry, Kim Nicoli, Chris Tinkle, Brenda Wilson or Dave Trueblood.

Since the organization began in September 2004 it has been able to help 11 people who have been diagnosed with cancer. Margaret Curry, president, stated “When we started we were only able to give $50.00 per person, but thanks to the overwhelming support of the community with donations and memorials we are now able to give each person $250. With the continued support we hope that someday we will be able to help even more.”

Anyone interested in helping the fund-raiser committee or for more information about the Scotland County Cancer Fund, should contact one of the board members.
